Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world at 8,163 metres (26,781 ft) above sea level. Manaslu is the highest peak in the Gorkha District. It is located about 64 km (40 mi) east of Annapurna. TheĀ Manaslu region offers a variety of trekking options. The Manaslu region, which was officially opened to foreign tourists only in 1991. Tourists must acquire a trekking permit from the Department of Immigration in addition to the TIMS card to enter this region.

The maximum elevation of 5160m at Larkya La Pass. The total length of the Manaslu trekking is around 177 kilometers. Manaslu trekking is not allowed individually because of restricted trekking area. Trekkers have to apply for Permits from register trekking agency.

Manaslu Restricted Area (MRA) Permits:

  • September – November U$D 100 per person per week. The first check is at Jagat and Last check at Dharapani.
  • December – August U$D 75 per person per week. The first check is at Jagat and Last check at Dharapani.

Manaslu Trekking Permits:

  • Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) permits U$D 30 per person
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) Permits U$D 30 per person
  • Trekking Information management system (TIMS) Permits U$D 20 per person

Manaslu Region Climate

The permanent snow line is above 5,000m elevation. Here the annual rainfall is about 1900 mm during monsoon time (June to September). In this area, the temperatures widely vary with the climatic zone.

Previously Manaslu area was popular as a camping trekking since trekkers used to carry foods and a number of porters were necessary for carrying which made the trekking expensive. Now, thankfully several tea-houses and lodges have opened in the trekking trails that have made trekking easier and quite cheaper.
