Frequently Asked Questions

Trip Planner Information

What is the likely group profile?
Clients come in all shapes, sizes and ages and from all walks of life! Taking a popular trek such as Nepal's Everest Panorama as an example, we would not be surprised to find an age range from 20 to 80, with a reasonable mix of male and female travelers. Around half of our clients in a typical group will be solo travelers, with the others being couples or groups of friends.

Can I bring my 14-year-old son with me?
Obviously, you can but s/he must be accompanied by an adult/guardian. Traveling is done regardless of the age. If you would like to travel with your family, we'd suggest you look at the fantastic range of specific Family Adventures that we offer.  Alternatively we would be happy to advice on a suitable private trip itinerary for you.

I am 75. Can I still travel with you?
Yes you can. You must be fit enough to participate.

Can I pre-book a single room and/or tent for my trip?
We offer both single hotel rooms and single tents for a supplementary cost (depending on availability) for most of our trips. Alternatively, call the office for more information.

Do you cater for special diets?
Whilst we routinely cater for vegetarians, we cannot provide special diets. We suggest that you contact our office to discuss your dietary requirements; it is possible to accommodate certain dietary requirements in some places, but there are many trips where this is not possible at all. P.S. we cannot provide separate menus and cannot accept any liability for any problems arising from special dietary requirements or intolerances

What luggage should I take with me?
You should take 2 items of luggage.

Firstly, you should take a daysack or small rucksack, large enough to carry your camera, water-bottles, waterproof jacket and fleece jumper. For most trekking trips, a 30 litre daysack is large enough. You will carry this as hand luggage on all flights.

The second of these is the big bag enough to carry everything you need and it could be your single item of check in luggage on all flights (unless you have a bike or skis).

We would advise that you read the equipment lists on each trip on this website, for example the 'Equipment list for Coriscan Haute Route GR20 ' or the trip dossier (also downloadable from each trip on this website) carefully for more information on baggage and equipment required for your chosen trip.

Can I get a VISA on arrival?
Yes, you can obtain your entry visa at the Kathmandu airport upon arrival or at a consulate in your home country. In either case, you need 2 passport size photograph and the visa fee. To date, the fee is USD 35 for up to 60 days. Check with your travel agents for an update. Please bring 3 more photos.

Should I bring my own medicine?
Please consult your local doctor and follow his advice. However, if you are taking any particular medicines, it would be best to bring these with you.

What happens in the event of an emergency?
On trek, a helicopter will be summoned which will take a maximum of 6 hours to reach you. You will then be flown with your guide to Kathmandu where you will be met by our office staff and taken to the International Hospital. If necessary, an onward International medical flight will be arranged. Anywhere else on the trip, you will be taken by road to Kathmandu where the same process will occur. Ensure that your insurance policy covers you for such unlike eventualities.

How much currency will I need?

You will need very little during the activity phases of the holiday: says USD 250 this should be carried in small denominations as change is hard to come by in the villages. There are good deals to be found in the hills, on mountain jewelry especially. However, when shopping in Kathmandu, there are many items to buy (wall hangings, carvings, artifacts, clothes, etc.) for souvenirs. Credit cards are only accepted in some shops.

Can I drink the water in the trip?
Do not drink tap water or stream water. All lodge/hotel water has been boiled and filtered and is safe. Local mineral water is also provided and is perfectly safe to drink.

Can I avail the facility of phone/fax/e-mail in Nepal?
A good standard communication system is readily available in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan. Neither phone nor fax is available while on trek.

What's the situation for charging camera batteries whilst on my trip?
Depending on the type of camera you have, we suggest taking a couple of spare batteries. This will probably be the lightest option, rather than carrying your charger and converter etc. Modern lithium batteries hold their charge well and can last for a two or three week trip, depending on usage of course.

On trek, you can minimize battery use by not viewing photos and by switching the camera off as much as possible. A compact solar charger or a power monkey could also be a good investment. In some mountain areas, e.g. the Khumbu (Everest region) in Nepal, there are opportunities to charge batteries (in lodges - for a small fee). Electrical power is not always guaranteed in Nepal. However this is not the case in more remote valleys so we would always suggest taking spare batteries.

Airport Arrival / Hotel transfer / Accommodation / Departure

Where are the passengers received after they arrive at the airport?
The incoming passengers are met just outside the arrival lounge of the airport as the government regulations do not allow hosts to enter the airport.

How do they identify your representative?
Our representative can be identified easily having the passengers placard displaying the name of the group (individuals in case of FITs).

What do the passengers do if they fail to locate your representative? Is there an alternate method to contact your representative?
In that case, they should ask any authority or a local person for the ADVENTURE CONNEXION staff who is expected to guide/direct them to our staff at the airport.

After meeting your representative, will they be taken to their vehicle immediately or they've to wait for other travelers who have also booked a transfer?
We provide separate transfer by separate private vehicles to our different clients coming at slight different time. The passengers have to wait for a few minutes till our vehicle waiting for them arrives at the spot from the parking place.

Do they carry their luggage themselves?
As the guests can meet our representative only outside the arrival lounge, they have to carry their luggage in the trolleys through the customs upto the exit point on their own and can hand over the same to our representative after meeting him. He takes care of their luggage till they check in at the hotel.

P.S. Avoid airport porters in the airport as possible.

Do I need airport pickup transfer?

It depends on how familiar you are with airport situations and your personal visit experience to Nepal. If you have earlier traveled Nepal and like to come freely to hotel, we accept such request. However if you a new traveler, then you are obliged to take airport pickup service. It is generally risk contacting tourist vendors or tourist vehicles personally for your service. We are afraid from being cheated from such hackers avail in the airport.

On arrival at the hotel, does your representative escort them to the front desk and assist them in check-in formalities?
The guests are escorted up to the hotel's front office and our representative assists them in the check-in formalities.

What types of vehicles are used for transfers? Are they air-conditioned?

Our fleet consists of both a/c and non a/c vehicles of Japanese cars, mini vans and coaches. The type of vehicle provided for a particular transfer depends upon the request and contract made between the two parties (ADVENTURE CONNEXION & clients/agent on behalf of the clients) and the size and strength of the arriving group.

Are the tourists given a city orientation tour as a part of their transfer?
During their transfer from the airport to the hotel, the tourists are generally briefed on Nepal and if time permits, on tourist destination (s). The transfer is not an orientation tour of the city.

Whom should the tourist contact during their stay ?
We assign one of our tour executives to look after our clients, who constantly stays in touch with them during their stay in Nepal and they keep informing/briefing them about their itinerary including sightseeing and every other information.

If passengers have booked sightseeing tours in your city, are they provided with vouchers/pick-up information?
As we have only organized tours for our clients, they do not need vouchers for their sightseeing.

I would like to send in feedback on my trip, how do I do this?
