For all travelers who want to have a wider vision of this small Himalayan kingdom which is Nepal: an alternation of hikes (short days distributed throughout the trip) in the duration of the voyage) and traditional visits to sites in the Kathmandu valley full of architectural richness. The city of Kathmandu is named after a structure in Durbar Square called Kaasthamandap. This unique temple, also known as Maru Satal, was built in 1596 CE by King Laxmi Narsingh Malla. The entire structure contains no iron nails or supports and is made entirely from wood. Legend has it that the timber used for this two story pagoda was obtained from a single tree. As the city has many temples, it is also known as the City of Temples.

An incursion into Chitwan Park, completely tropical, and a visit to Pokhara, famous for its climate, will all shed different light on this country.  A top notch walking discovery trip, rich in diversity!

Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgaon (means 'City of Rice') in Nepali, or Khwopa (City of Devotees) in Newari, 16 km, east of Kathmandu Valley free from hectic Traffic. The cobblestone streets link a string of temples, courtyards and monumental squares, and the side streets are peppered with shrines, wells and water tanks. Including the famous Golden Gate and the Palace of 55 Windows, nearby are the Duttatreya Square, a treasure-house of ancient wood carvings, and the Nyatapola temple, the tallest pagoda structure in the Valley. The town's cultural life is also vibrant, with centuries-old traditions of craftsmanship and strong communities of potters, woodcarvers and weavers. Look for rice laid out to dry in the sun, people collecting water or washing under the communal taps, dyed yarns hung out to dry, children's games, fascinating shops and women pounding grain - there's plenty to see.

Boudhanath or Jyarung Khasyor, 11 km, east of Kathmandu Valley is a centre for pilgrims for Buddhist. This ancient colossal Stupa is one of the largest and oldest Buddhist Stupas in the world. It is the center of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu and rich in Buddhist symbolism. The Stupa is said to entomb the remains of Kassapa Buddha. From above, Bodnath Stupa looks like a Giant Mandala, or diagram of the Buddhist Cosmos.

Pashupatinath Temple : Situated 5 km east of Kathmandu, with its astonishing architectural beauty, stands as a symbol of faith, religion, culture and tradition is one of the most significant Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. Although only Hindus are allowed inside the temple, visitors can clearly see the temple and the activities performed in the temple premises from the eastern bank of the Bagmati River.

    Overnight at hotel.

  • Day 03 Drive to Nagarkot (2195m) via Changunarayan.

Short drive to Nagarkot (2175m)-32 kilometers East of Kathmandu, on the northeast edge of the Valley facing the Himalayas (with the Annapurna in the west and Everest in the east). From the Kattike Danda ridge, we dominate the great depression of the Indrawati valley. Superb sun set in clear weather. Night in Hotel.

Nagarkot is situated on a ridge northeast of Kathmandu valley,  is one of the most scenic spots and renowned for its spectacular sunrise view of the snow-topped peaks of the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal during clear weather. From this hillstation, it is possible to catch a clear view of panaromic Himalays from Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east.  It also offers an excellent view of the Indrawati river valley to the east as well as panoramic view of the Valley and is described by visitors as a place whose beauty endures year round.

  • Day 04 Drive to Balthali. Short time available for village tour

Early sunrise view at Nagarkot (2175m). After breakfast, we leave to Panauti, while passing Banepa, a city which substituted Panauti for trade with Tibet. We get off from vehicule to start our hiking towards Balthali. Easy excursion through the fields, in a typical countryside at the doors of Kathmandu, to join the very pleasant lodging lodge at Balthali.

Panauti, 6 kms south of Banepa just outside Kathmandu, is located at the confluence of two rivers -Rosi Khola and Punyamati Khola and shelters many temples including one dedicated to Ahilya, some of which were recently renovated by the CNRS (temple of Indreshwar Mahadev - a Shiva temple said to be the oldest temple of Nepal).

(Interesting Hindu Legend : Ahilya,  a beautiful wife of a sage was seduced by Lord Indra who transformed himself into the form of her husband. On knowing about this the sage cursed Indra so that he had female sexual organs all over his body. To get rid of this curse, Indra repented his sin for many years and became a devotee of Lord Shiva. Shiva was pleased and transformed himself into lingam. This became the Indrashwor Mahadev. Indra took a bath at the confluence of two two rivers here and regained his normal form. )

Swayambhunath, popular as the Monkey Temple among foreigners, with 2000 years old religious Buddhist stupa perched atop a hillock 3km west of Kathmandu city, is the most profound expression of Buddhist symbolism in Nepal, and possibly the world and the most glorious Buddhist pilgrimage. The hill commands a sweeping view of changing Kathmandu Valley, and the temple complex, overrun with pilgrims and monkeys, is a real eye-opener. The stupa painted on the 4 sides of the spire’s base are the all-seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. Between eyes, there is something painted which look likes the nose - but is the Nepali symbol of 'unity', in the main Nepali language dialect.

Patan or Yala among locals, lying 5 km southeast of Kathmandu, is known as the city of fine arts. It is best known for its rich cultural heritage and traditional cultural festivals, particularly its tradition of arts and crafts, making of metallic and stone carving statue. The city houses the medieval cultural diversity that allows Krishna Temple, Golden Temple, Royal courtyards and many other temples and shrines, mahavihars and towers, in fact a rich legacy of impressive sightseeing holidays in fine art city.

Kathmandu Durbar Square : Most travelers come to Nepal especially Kathmandu Durbar Square to see the old city, a tight tangle of narrow alleys and old temples and palaces, symbolizing the religious and cultural life of Kathmanduties. Literally, Durbar Square is a place of palaces. Kathmandu Durbar Square is the historic seat of royalty. Interesting things to see here are: Taleju Temple, Kumari Temple – “home of Kathmandu’s living goddess”, Kasthamandap, Hanuman Dhoka and many more.
