Dhaulagiri (8,167), an enormous Himalayan massif is the world’s seventh highest mountain denoting the highest summit in its massif named Dhaulagiri Range. This massif extends 120 km from the Kali Gandaki River west to the Bheri. Dhaulagiri, the easternmost high peak stands for “Dazzling White Mountain” located in north central Nepal.

Annapurna I (8091m) is only 34 km. east of Dhaulagiri I. The Kali Gandaki River flows between through its notable gorge, said to be the world’s deepest. Dhaulagiri's sudden rise from lower terrain is almost unique. It rises 7,000 m from the Kali Gandaki River 30 km to the southeast. The South and West faces rise precipitously over 4000 m.

Dhaulagiri was first climbed May 13, 1960 by a Swiss/Austrian expedition.
