Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain on Earth rising at an elevation of 8516m above the sea level and is proximity to Everest via the South Col mounting only 610m above the col. The summit lies at the position of latitude 27°57'45" and longitude 86°56'03".In addition to the main summit, there are subsidiary peaks, Lhotse Middle (East) is 8,414 m and Lhotse Shar is 8,383 m and Nuptse, a high peak on the mountain's west ridge. It is located at the border between Tibet (China) and the Khumbu region of Nepal.
Lhotse is a dramatic peak in its own right, due to its tremendous south face. This rises 3.2 km in only 2.25 km of horizontal distance, making it the steepest face of this size in the world. No serious attention was turned to climbing Lhotse until after Everest had finally been ascended. Swiss citizen, Mr. Ernest Reiss scaled Mt. Lhotse for the first time on 18th May, 1956 via West Face.
