Chulu East is a part of Gunggang Himal including Chulu West (6419m), Chulu Central (6584m), Chulu East (6429m) and Chulu Far East (6059). Chulu East, together with Chulu West, forms an integral part of the Manang Himal, which in turn is included in the Larger Damodar Himal. The entire range is flanked by a range of glaciers from the North side and climbing involves settling glacier traverse to each of the peaks.

At 6564m, Chulu Peak is located north of Annapurna massif presents a very attractive peak climbing objective for trekkers doing Annapurna Circuit either full version or half version to Manang. The views from Chulu East, 400m higher then Pisang Peak, are absolutely spectacular on the entire Annapurna range including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre, and entire magnificent Grand Barrier from Tilicho Peak to Roc Noir. The access to the Base Camp from Ngawal village along Julu Khola valley is also very spectacular with the view on Chulu East and its smaller cousin Chulu Far East.
